Anne of Green Gables

This is one heck of a classic movie. I must say, the first time I watched this movie was when I was little. It was kinda a have-to-watch-movie for me 'cause my siblings who were much older than me were watching it and since we had only one TV set at that time, I just joined them and in the end I snoozed off. The movie was too darn long!

When the 2nd sequel came out not long after, they were excited to watch it and again, it was another have-to-watch-movie for me.

Anyways, few years ago I think there was a rerun of it and I did try to watch it since I'm all grown up that time, but alas, halfway through the movie I fell asleep >.<" pathetic 'ol me.

But few days ago, I stumbled upon all 3 parts of the movie somewhere in my piles of junks and since I was bored that day I decided to finally watch it all. I was laughing my heart out throughout the entire movie! It took me the whole day to finish the Anne of Green Gables movies marathon. I just love the movie! I would definitely watch it again.

Tho it took me years after its release for me to appreciate the movie, I'm just glad that I finally get to watch it all without falling asleep XD

A bit of summary

Anne of Green Gables is a bestselling novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery published in 1908. The character Anne Shirley is an imaginative, red-headed orphan who comes to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert an unmarried siblings.

The Cuthbert who lives together at Green Gables, a farm in Avonlea on Prince Edward Island in Canada, decide to adopt a boy from an orphan asylum in Nova Scotia as a helper on their farm. Through a series of mishaps, the person who ends up under their roof is a precocious girl of thirteen named Anne Shirley. She is something of a chatterbox, which initially drives the prim, duty-driven Marilla to distraction, although shy Matthew falls for her immediately.

You just hafta watch it and you'll fall in love with the movie!

Unstoppable

The first time I heard of this movie was when my friend said;

'You want to watch a movie? Something called unstoppable - free.'
'Free?'
'Yeah. My friend got extra 2 tickets for the premier screening from The Star'
'Sure'

Free. The magic word that one should not pass up on. LOL

When the movie started, my friend whispered 'Someone told me this is a funny movie'.
Because of that few words, I was waiting for the funny part until at one point I realized that this movie was anything but funny!

The movie is about a train that was carelessly handled by two idiots which resulted the train to barrel down the tracks completely unmanned. Not only it is unmanned, it was also carrying deadly chemicals and could explode a whole city if it was unable to be stopped by the time it reached Stanton.

There were lots of suspenseful parts in the movie and at one point I believed I closed my eyes not wanting to see what happened next >.<" But in all the suspense, there were also parts where you just feel touched and couldn't control your tears. I just love Denzel Washington!!

For those who love train thriller movies, I would recommend this movie. I give it a 4/5.

Prince Of Persia (review)

To be honest, have no idea that there's a movie now showing called 'The Prince of Persia'. I wasn't sure as to wanna watch it or not cos I was afraid that it would be another 'The Clash of the Titans' movie. But since there was no other movie available to watch (except for Sherk, but that one I KIV for later, heee)I just agreed on watching it.

To my surprise, the movie was quite good. I like the plot and I love the acting, it's not the like the Clash of the Titans movie where the hero is always moody and angry and makes the whole movie sucks (no offense to any of Clash of the Titans fan.. =_=")

As usual, in every movie I watch (especially fiction ones) I tend to dream of any interesting and desirable things in the movie.

For instance, in the Prince of Persia movie, gawd, how I wish I could get hold of that dagger! It would make my life so much better!

Sands of time, how I wish you are now in my hand. I won't go back time so far to the past, I won't let any hurricane to happen, I just want to go back to yesterday and buy the jackpot number for today, LOL!

If only I could...

Anyways, this is suppose to be a review, so, here goes.

The beginning past of the movie is an attention grabber. The story is simple, a boy threw an apple to a Persian guard to save his friend and the King saw the courageous little boy and adopted him as his own son, but in that simpleness, I got hooked to the movie from the beginning till the end.

And there's a twist in the story where I predicted the next scene, and I got it wrong. I would rate this movie a 4/5, a must watch movie too.

A Three-Day Movie Marathon

I just realized it today that I spent my evenings at Mid Valley for the past three days! After work on Sunday my friend and I rushed there to catch Iron Man II movie. I'm not really a big fan of Iron Man, and this movie was not something I've been anticipating on. But since I watched the first Iron Man at a cinema, it would only be fair if I watched the second one in the cinema too. (excuses, excuses.. hehe..) The movie was okay for me, personally I find the first Iron Man to be better in terms of the story line and the overall movie.


As compared to the first one, I guess the second one is funnier but I still prefer the first one 'cause I am not satisfied on how easy was it for him to defeat the electric-swooshing enemy, Ivan Vanko. I guess I expected more from the the movie, and it failed to deliver. *sigh*

The drive home from the movie was a silent one, I cracked my head real hard to find a point to talk about the movie, but all there was was about how we were not satisfied on how easy the villain was defeated. This is the kind of movie it was - "the-nothing-to-talk-about-after" movie.

The next day after attending a seminar, without thinking twice we found ourselves on the highway heading for Mid Valley. We plan to watch Toy Story 1 ans 2 in 3D but there was only one show at 12 p.m. that day. It took us about 30 minutes to decide what to watch that day; Shutter Island, The Date Night or Haunted Room (Who Are You). After much discussion, finally we agreed on watching a Thailand horror movie, Haunted Room. I was really excited to watch the movie since Thailand is famous for their horror movies. I think what made me more excited to watch the movie was the fact that one of my friend is a fainthearted person, I just love to watch her reaction when it involved things like ghosts or anything that is scary. Never failed to make me laugh till my tummy hurts.


The movie was so-so, it was not something that you will get nightmares from. At one point I find the movie very touching and sad - the love of a mother for her child. If I were the mother in the movie, I too would probably be as she was. Anyways, for me the movie though very short felt like an eternity to end. I fell asleep in the middle of it waiting for the supposed ghost to appear. This movie I rate 2/5 in terms of its scare-level - only the sound effect makes you at the edge of your seat.

The next day, we spent yet another evening in Mid Valley for another movie. Two movies to be exact, we went there to watch the limited release of Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D!! I've watched the movies for a gazillion times and I just can't get enough of it, so it was no problem for me to watch the movies over again.



The 3D effect was not that big a deal tho for me; but I don't know, maybe I expected too much out of it. For me, sitting for more than 3 hours watching those movies was not a problem, just that wearing those 3D glasses for a long period of time kinda makes you feel a bit dizzy and get blurry eye sights.

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

At last I got the chance to watch the long awaited movie Alice in Wonderland! The 3D effect was superb! Tho in all the 3D-ness I started to get a bit dizzy, I still enjoyed the movie very much. I just love watching movies when Tim Burton and Johnny Depp team up in like in Edward Scissorshand, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd.

But, I must say in Alice in Wonderland my favourite is the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) instead of Johnny Depp. It just cracks me to watch her with her 'off-with-his-head' attitude. In all her appearance in the movie, she never failed to make me laugh! Gawd, I just adore her! HAHAHA! I also like both Tweedledee and Tweedledum, I find both of them hilarious too.

My favourite, the Red Queen. LOL!

All in all I give this movie a good 4.5 out of 5. A must watch movie of the year!!

No-Bake Chilled Blueberry Cheese Cake

It's been a while since my last entry to this blog. And since it's the 30th of December today, this would probably be my last entry for 2009. I can't believe the year is almost over, I'm just not ready yet to let go of 2009!

Oh, before I forgot.. My friend and I made blueberry cheese cake as our Christmas cake. I didn't do much actually, all I did was stood there and let my friend do all the hard work, hahaha. So, all the credit goes to her.

Thick Chilled Blueberry Cheese Cake

Yummy~ it tastes heavenly.

Recipe of this lazy DIY-chilled cheese cake

CRUST [BISCUIT BASE]
Marie biscuits
Around 50g-80g butter, melted
Optional - Can add sugar but we didn't

CHEESECAKE FILLING
2 x 250g Philadelphia cream cheese (around 375g is ok but lazy to keep the remaining)
3 tbsp gelatine, dissolved in ¼ cup water
1 kotak whipping cream (supposed 1 cup but lazy to measure)
2 tbsp lemon juice (don't put over cus it'll taste sour/lemon-ey)
¾ cup sugar (adjust to your preferred sweetness level)
2 cup blueberries (adjust to any amount you like =) )

TOPPING got this from here
Finish the remaining blueberries* (unless you wanna keep it then put 2 1/2 cups blueberries)
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/8 cup water
1/4 cup sugar (start by adding half of the sugar, add remaining to taste)
*used S&W Blueberries in Heavy Syrup (from Giant) RM26.90
**if not sweet enough after spreading the topping, sprinkle icing sugar on top =)

METHOD

1. Lightly grease pan with melted butter.
2. Crust - Mix the crushed biscuit and melted butter in a mixing bowl. Press firmly the mixture into the base of the pan. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
3. Filling: Dissolve gelatine in warm water. Mix cream cheese, lemon juice and sugar until smooth. Add in the blueberries filling. Put in the gelatine and mix well. Fold in the whipped cream.
4. Pour filling into crust; Chilled for at least 4-6 hours or until firm.
5. Spread topping.
   

So, that was the cake and from the looks of it, I guess I'll be adding some kilos 'cause I just can't get enough of it! I can't help it..how can I resist it.. cheese is my weakness.. Just like a vampire couldn't resist blood~ *sigh*

Speaking of vampires, I got the chance to finally watch Twilight Saga: New Moon last week. I was determined not to fall asleep like I did on the first movie - Twilight. But...of all movies I watched this month, this is the only one I fell asleep.. I guess I can't stand to see Edward and Bella's scene together.. It's like so sloooow..

Anyways, I've never been a fan of Twilight, it's not really my cup of tea. The only vampire story that I ever and still like is a book by Christopher Pike - The Last Vampire. That is the only vampire story that I can be drifted in to. There are six books altogether in The Last Vampire, and if I'm not mistaken, I read them all 3 times. I just LOVE the story. And the author too of course. I read most of his books, and I love them all.

Oh, forgot to mention, before watching Twilight, I watched AVATAR!! in 3D!! The storyline is okay. It's a predictable movie, but I guess what makes it interesting is the graphic and the effects, and the out of this world imagination.. I like Neytiri in the movie, she's the one of the blue people, the one that saved Jake from the ... some kind of wolf animal thingy.. spunky li'l girl ain't she.. It's a good movie, worth my RM15 for two and a half hour.

And before ending the year, I get to watch Sherlock Holmes. It was not as I expected it to be. But over all, it was still a great movie. I like the settings of the movie - 1891 in London. I don't know why I like that sort fo settings, but I guess, it's sorta like going back to the past, and it's like you can see how the past was.. er.. it sounds stupid, but I guess that's why I like it.

I hope 2010 will be a great year for everyone!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I’m a Sherlock Holmes in the Making

I've been excited about this movie ever since I saw the trailer last month and can't wait to watch it! I accidentally bumped into a blog that says about a nuffnang contest where 60 nuffnangers will get 2 movie passes and watch Sherlock Holmes 2 days before its release date in Malaysia! And all I had to do is a be super brilliant detective like him, muahahaha!

With my super brilliant detective skills, I was able to solve the case.. ehehe..

Jennifer's Body

Just now I was fortunate enough to get to watch the premier screening of Jennifer's Body thanks to my friend, who won the 'Jennifer's Body Movie Redemption' from The Star Online.

Since it was free sitting, we went to the e@Curve an hour early to make sure we got the best sit in the hall. After sitting through a-30-minute-advertisements, the movie finally starts.. Here's a summary on the movie if you are interested to watch it this Thursday.



Summary of Jennifer's Body

The movie is about two high school BFF who are the opposites of each other. Jennifer (acted by the scrumptious Megan Fox) is a gorgeous and stuck-up cheerleader, while Needy (Amanda Seyfried) is a nerd who is also Jennifer's life-long best friend.

One night, a gang of rockers called "Low Shoulder" from the city came to their small home town, Devil's Kettle in Minnesota to play at a club. Jennifer asked Needy to go to the club with her to watch the band as she had a big crush on the lead singer. While the band was playing, the club suddenly got on fire and everyone was panic and pushing one another trying to escape, but Needy managed to escape with Jennifer through the bathroom window.

When they got outside, the bands were already outside and asked them to get to their van to be safe. Needy, who has a bad feeling on the guys did not joined them but Jennifer, who was somewhat hypnotized or something followed them into the van. The terror began after the incident at the club.

To make the story short - The rocker band from the city was actually looking for a virgin girl to be sacrificed to the devil so that they can make it as a successful band in the city. But what they did not know was that Jennifer is not a virgin and by scarifying an impure soul, the demon will reside in the victim's body forever and will feed on human flesh to sustain itself. Her victims are mostly guys since all of them could not resist her. After Jennifer told Needy what happened that night of the fire, Needy searched everything about the occult practices and tried to tell her boyfriend Chip about Jennifer but of course he did not believed her.

After Jennifer had her last victim, Chip, Needy was determined to kill Jennifer. One night she went to Jennifer's house and stabbed her chest and killed her. But unfortunately, Jennifer's mum suddenly came in the room and saw Needy on top of her daughter with a knife on Jennifer's chest. Needy was sent to the mental institute or something and she was not the old nerdy Needy. Being bitten by a Demon and survived somehow gave Needy some of the Demon's power and ability. She broke out of the institute, and while walking she saw the knife that the rocker band used to sacrificed Jennifer. She then went to the city and killed the band with the knife.

For me, I gave the movie 3.5 out of 5, and my friend gave it 2.5 out of 5. For me, the movie is not boring or anything, I was actually fascinated with the Demon's power and I actually said "I want to be like that..." HAHHHA! But like my friend said, the script was not that good, and they tried to make it sound like an everyday teenage conversation, but I guess it didn't really worked.

There were a lot of scenes that was cut and I guess when it comes out to the cinema, a lot more scenes will be cut.

I really like the soundtrack of the movie and most of the songs are nice to listen to, especially the one sang by the Low Shoulder - Through the Trees. If you want the soundtracks, you can give me a buzz ;)

Brüno

Having nothing to do at home one day, me and my friend decided to watch Bruno, a movie directed by Larry Charles. This movie is strongly recommended for those who enjoyed watching Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen).

The movie is about a flamboyant gay fashion journalist, Bruno (portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen) who was fired after ridiculing himself on a Milan Fashion Week catwalk. After being dumped by his lover Diesel, Bruno travelled to the United States to become a superstar, accompanied by his assistant's assistnant, Lutz.

Bruno's attempts of being famous started off by being an extra on NBC's Medium, which he was later on fired. He then produced his own show which was firmly rejected due to its inappropriate contents, which I find rather hilarious. And there were lots of other unsuccessful attempts he did that were plain retarded.

A word of warning tho, this movie is NOT for those who hate Borat, Gays, and stupid jokes. This movie is totally NOT for those under 18 too.

Public Enemies

Public Emenies is a movie about a well known bank robber in the America during the Great Depression - John Dillinger. Before watching the movie at the cinema, I did a little research on John Dillinger to get a feel on what was the movie about. But of course, as any other Hollywood movies, especially with actors such as Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, watching it was more interesting rather than reading about it cos it's impossible to get your eyes off the screen when those two are on it.

Truth be told, when the movie started I already planned to snooze off since I was quite tired prior to the movie. But as it turned out, I watched the movie all the way through. Although the movie was quite slow but it gets you hooked on it cos although Dillinger was a dangerous bank robber and was responsible for the murders of several police officers, still, it gets you hoping that he won't get caught or shot to death.

Ice Age 3 - Dawn of the Dinosaurs

I've been looking forward to watch this movie ever since I saw the ad last year, and today, I finally watched it - in 3D!!

Although the 3D effect was not that great, but there were lots of parts in the movie that you just can't resist laughing and throughout the movie, you can hear people laughing their hearts out. And the baby dinosaurs are just adorable! And my favourite part was when one of the baby dino swallowed the other baby animals. It was so cute!

Anyways.. Although it's a good movie, but personally, for me, I think it is one of those forgettable movie. Something that you forget once you step out of the cinema. Although there were lots of parts that made me laugh, but I find it hard to recall all the parts, and it's not that type of movie that you talk about with your friends after exiting the cinema hall.

All in all, I did had an entertaining one and a half hours in the cinema.
